Details

Back in 2017, I made an elaborate multi-pass large-format print that drew on elements of The Incomparable podcast network’s iconography: our robot and zeppelin, in particular. This new offering is a high-quality giclée archival ink-jet print on art paper from a high-resolution scan of the original poster, offered in a limited numbered edition of 50.

The unique appearance of the letterpress poster carries over well to giclée printing, preserving the intense colors and forms. The original poster combined historic metal-type and wood-type printing (text), modern photopolymer (robot), linoleum carving (zeppelin), and pressure printing (the background color).

I sign and number each print as sold, noting the edition size (like “45 of 50”), depending on the final print run. It is packed by the printer for shipping with a foam core board, and I have added an additional chipboard layer to ensure no damage in transit.

The company I use for giclée prints relies on 12-color archival UltraChrome PRO12 Ink on an Epson SureColor P9570. The result is richly colored and vibrant, with the longevity of a fine-art print. The paper is Hahnemuehle’s William Turner, which has a texture that mimics traditional watercolor paper. Made from 100% cotton (310 gsm/24.4 mil).

The image is slightly undersized on the printed page to show the edges of the original poster, including a deckle edge at the bottom. It can be trimmed left and right or on all four sides for matting or framing, depending on how much of the white border you want to retain.
