Aperiodical is a very small publisher—just me—and I want every order to arrive right. If anything is unclear or something has gone wrong, email me at apubco@aperiodical.net and I’ll help. Please include your order number (it’s in your confirmation email, formatted like #2501) so I can find your order quickly.

I’m based in Seattle, Washington, and typically reply right away on business days.
Orders & payment
- How payment works: Checkout is handled by Stripe. I never see or store your full card number. For details on what payment and order information I receive and how I protect it, see my Privacy Policy.
- Currency: All prices and charges are in U.S. dollars (USD). Your bank converts to your local currency if needed; conversion rates and any foreign-transaction fees are set by your card issuer, not by me.
- Tax on purchase: Any applicable tax is calculated automatically at checkout based on your address and the type of product, where I’m required to collect it.
- Order confirmation: You’ll see a confirmation page immediately after payment and receive a confirmation email with a receipt. If you don’t see the email, check your spam folder, then email me.
- Changes or cancellations: Need to fix an address or cancel before something ships? Email me as soon as possible and I’ll do my best to catch it before fulfillment.
Digital downloads (ebooks, audiobooks)
- Where to find them: Your download links appear on the confirmation page right after checkout and in your confirmation email.
- Links: Individual download links are valid for 7 days. If your link expired, you can generate fresh links anytime from the permanent download-page link included in your confirmation email.
- Formats: Ebooks are always provided as PDFs; some ebooks also include EPUB and/or MOBI downloads. Each ebook page lists the additional formats. Audiobooks are provided as standard audio files.
- Trouble downloading? Email apubco@aperiodical.net with your order number and I’ll get you a working link.
Shipping (physical items)
- Processing time: Items ship within a few business days, either from my basement lair or a fulfillment partner. Orders that require a signature or inscription may take longer.
- Tracking: When your order ships, you will receive an automated email with tracking information.
- Customs & duties (international): Orders shipped outside the U.S. may be subject to import duties, taxes, or customs fees charged by your country, and the shipper may collect those fees plus an agent fee. These are not included in the price.
- Pre-orders: Pre-ordered items ship after the title is released. If your order mixes a pre-order with in-stock items, I will ship them separately so you receive the available items sooner.
Returns, damages & refunds
General returns
Because I’m a small publisher, I accept returns and issue refunds only for items that arrive damaged or are lost in transit. I do not accept returns for change of mind.
Damaged in transit
- If your item arrives damaged, email apubco@aperiodical.net within 14 days of delivery with your order number and a photos of the item and the packaging. (In some cases, I may be able to file for an insurance refund from the shipping company.)
- I’ll send a replacement if one is available. If the item is sold out or a limited edition I can’t replace, I’ll issue a full refund for that item.
- Please keep the original packaging until your claim is resolved, as carriers sometimes ask to inspect it for shipping insurance claims.
Lost in transit
- If tracking shows your order as delivered but you don’t have it, first check with your household and neighbors and confirm the address. This happens a surprising number of times. If it still doesn’t turn up, email me.
- If a package is truly lost in transit (no delivery scan within a reasonable window), contact me and I’ll either reship or refund the affected items.
Digital products & subscriptions
Digital downloads and newsletter subscriptions are non-refundable once purchased and can’t be returned. If you hit a technical problem I can’t fix—a corrupt file, a download that won’t work—email me and I’ll make sure you get a file you can use.
How refunds are issued
Approved refunds are returned to your original payment method through Stripe. It can take several business days for the refund to appear on your statement, depending on your bank.
Subscriptions
- One-time payment: Premium newsletter subscriptions are a single payment for the term you choose. Currently, they do not auto-renew—you’ll never be charged again without buying a new term. (The lifetime subscription clearly does not auto-renew.) If I add an auto-renew option in the future, you will not be signed up for renewal without your express permission.
- Gifts: You can buy a subscription as a gift; I’ll set it up for the recipient you specify at checkout.
- Access problems: If you’re not receiving issues you paid for, email me and I’ll sort it out.
Privacy
For how I handle your personal information, see my Privacy Policy. In short: I use your details only to fulfill your order and never sell your information.
